How to move the body in ropes while keeping things as safe, efficient and collaborative as possible.
In this beginner shibari tutorial, Margherita and her model Shakti Bliss explore how to move the body in ropes while keeping things as safe, efficient and collaborative as possible. Moving another person’s body in space can be influenced by many different factors: body size, flexibility, position and more. Add ropes, and yet another variable is added to the equation, but there are ways to do it that reduce how much force you need to apply, how much weight either partner needs to support, and that will add fluidity to your rope scenes. The idea? Not just smoother movement and less risk of injury, but more connective and intentional play too. In the first class, they offer a framework for understanding body mechanics and then using them to your advantage, demonstrating various techniques without ropes. In the second class, the challenge is levelled up with the addition of ropes. The aim of this demo is to emphasize how restricting different body parts impacts mobility, and how to adjust for these new considerations. This class is intended for shibari beginners and forms part of our Getting Started curriculum.
This class is suitable for all levels. It’s part of our Getting Started series, which we recommend you watch in order.
